At Chantilly, we love our decorations and advertisements. Another way we've used our personal lives to publicize more, we've used car markers to write all over our cars with information about the show. Here are some examples!

To make sure our school community is aware of our show, we have been doing all we can to decorate our school with fun decorations! We have a large banner outside of the kiss & ride entrance, sidewalk chalk decorations all around the school, a spirit wall, and many, many, many lawn signs around the school. Check it out!
This past Monday was the first day of opening week! To celebrate the occasion, we sponsored a school wide spirit day for the entire school to participate in. Students were able to wear pajamas to school, for "Starry Night Monday." It was awesome seeing our entire community support our drama department!
Over the weekend we finally got all of our t-shirts and buttons! They all look amazing, and we created this beautiful spirit pack for all of the cast members to have. We printed out information about the spirit week and attached it to little goodie bags, and then wrapped them in twine around the shirts. Inside the bags were buttons, and information about our teacher button day. They looked beautiful.
This past Saturday, our publicity team held up at Safeway in Burke to sell some baked goods in order to raise money for the Lost Boys Foundation. Obviously, the primary reason why we chose the organization was because of the name. Other than that though, it really is a great cause! The non-profit group is dedicated towards raising money and awareness for those expelled from Sudan during the Sudanese War, aka the hundreds of homeless orphans thus nicknamed "The Lost Boys." Look up more information by researching the organization!
We raised over $50, (which may not sound like a lot) but it is! Being in Robinson territory made it hard for us to drum up donations, but we did end up promoting the show a lot through free concession tickets and flyers. All in all, I think it was a success. My deepest apologies to the cast, you all are very stressed about next week and homework and such, and I guess me being typical crazy pants didn't help. At least K called me out on it. I love you all. Here are the letters I have so far: (Thanks so much to everyone who turned some in!)
I'd just like to say for the record, that I love sandwich boards. This years ours are especially beautiful, as we decided to opt out of the typical black background and it is gorgeous looking. But... OMG it's a struggle carrying them out. After redoing one of them (gosh darn freshmen,) Caroline and I had to go and use her truck to place it back in the streets. Although we got some strong men to put it into her car... we didn't really think about having to take it back out. It was bad. Hard. Difficult. More synonyms for words meaning tough. Even worse, after we started driving away we realized that the gate for her truck was still open. Caroling made me get out at a red light and close it again... it was very embarrassing. Those gosh darn sandwich boards. At least they're pretty.
So. The letter thing. As part of my many ideas for publicity, I really wanted to do something that would encourage the people in our lives in a more personal way to come see the show. After my friend sent me a hand-written letter on her own time, it inspired me to require everyone in the cast to write their own letters. Everyone in the cast must send at the least 3 handwritten letters detailing the show to someone not in their immediate family, and I've been hounding the cast to send it. Whoever does not confirm the letters with me are blacklisted.

With one week to go until the opening performance of Peter and the Starcatcher, you can tell people are anxious! Although there are some obvious jitters about the upcoming week, you can tell that everyone is excited at the same time to see it all come together. Publicity Notes: I've been bugging the entire cast for a week now about the letters. >:((( <--- Me 24/7 because the actors won't send me the letters. (See other blog post on clarification on the letter thing) I also feel like half my job is literally just emailing people. I email... all the time. I just email people. Additionally, it's been pretty funny hearing all of the British accents. Mrs. K directing in it is my favorite part, and even though I'm not acting I still love using it. Ta ta. Love you all. -Alayna |
